Rights and Responsibilities of Honors StudentsIt is a privilege to be a member of the Honors College at the University of Arizona, a role that exists not only inside the classroom, but in the real world as well. Honors students earn this privilege not just through knowledge, but also through good character. In the words of John Luther, “Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are to some extent a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece, by piece by thought, choice, courage and determination.” Honors students’ privileges include Honors advising, the use of the Slonaker computer lab, extended library checkouts, enrolling in Honors classes, Honors contracts, priority registration, and Honors College listservs and newsletters. Members of the Honors College are responsible for respecting and properly using the resources provided by the Honors College and the University of Arizona. In order to retain the privileges of honors status, it is essential that honors students actively, continuously and deliberately uphold the standards delineated in the Student Code of Conduct and the University Code of Academic Integrity, as well as the broader tenets of good character. Honors students demonstrate integrity by acting as role models for students and faculty at the university and the wider community. Integrity is indispensable.
