Giving Opportunities

Gifts from alumni, parents and friends of The Honors College help insure that the opportunities of an Honors education are available to all students. Your gift to The Honors College will help young adults take advantage of a premier undergraduate education and prepare them for a future of leadership, social responsibility, and career development.

The Dean’s Fund for Excellence provides unrestricted funds that can be used where the need is greatest. This fund has supported the Five Star Faculty Teaching Award, student expenses for Honors Thesis projects, and student travel to give papers at professional meetings

The Common Reading program creates community among Honors students and helps new students make connections in their first semester. The Honors College gives each incoming student a copy of the common reading and plans a series of activities in the fall around the theme of the reading. Funds are used to support activities, to bring the author to campus and to provide texts for students.

Honors Civic Engagement Teams serve undergraduates and the Southern Arizona community by creating interdisciplinary, student teams that undertake specific, consequential projects under the close supervision of both the College and partnering non-profit organizations. Internship scholarships enable participation by students with financial need.

Study abroad scholarships allow students to broaden their view of their academic discipline while learning about people and cultures in an international setting while easing the financial barriers that might otherwise prohibit international study.

The Richard Kissling Scholarship Endowment celebrates the 18-year Honors legacy of Richard Kissling, a remarkable mentor, advisor, teacher and friend. Through the endowment, Dr. Kissling’s compassion lives on by supporting students with financial need who demonstrates the spirit of inquiry and a passion for learning.
