First Level Honors
This certificate serves as a mid-degree recognition for Honors students. It is one of only two Honors College awards offered to Honors students, the other being graduation with Honors. It also signifies that you are on track to graduate with Honors. In order to obtain the certificate, you must fulfill the following two requirements: accumulate at least fifteen Honors units before receiving credit for the sixtieth unit taken at UA since entering the Honors program as either a freshman or sophomore and achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA upon becoming eligible for the certificate. Transfer credit you bring to UA through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or dual enrollment do not count toward the sixty units.
Please note: if you enterThe Honors College as either a junior or senior, you are not eligible for this award. Also, some students in the College of Engineering need to complete 14 units instead of 15. This includes students in the following majors: Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Industrial Engineering,Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Optical Engineering, and Systems Engineering.
This certificate is presented at an annual award ceremony, and the distinction appears on your official university transcript. You do not need to apply for this award; they are notified before the ceremony if they have fulfilled the requirements.
