Flandrau/Rio Nuevo Project
Through the HCET internship, in the past two semesters I have been involved in an exciting collaboration with the Flandrau Science Center to help develop plans for the new Rio Nuevo Science Center. During the first semester, our group formulated a project to find the similarities and differences between the science and technology needs of Tucson companies and the science preparation that UA students receive. This information will be valuable when creating exhibits and outreach programs at the new science center. After conducting research about the Tucson workforce and science education, we used this information to develop the goals for our project. We then designed high school and college surveys, as well as interview questions for Tucson employers.
This semester, we are implementing our project plans and will collect and analyze our results. I have especially enjoyed working with students from extremely diverse majors and interests, ranging from marketing to optical
engineering. By applying all of the knowledge that we have collectively learned so far, we are now a part of one of Tucson's most unique and promising endeavors and are very excited for the completion of our project.
