World Care/ Congo Medical Project

I am a part of the World Care team. Last semester I worked on a project to design and equip a maternity hospital to be built in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our team worked closely with the UMC to determine what kind of equipment and technology would be most useful and appropriate. We made contact with more than fifty hospitals and private clinics in Tucson and Phoenix to request equipment and supplies to be donated. We designed the building to be sustainable, efficient and to deliver excellent pre and postnatal care. Our proposal was taken to Washington D.C. after the semester break and accepted. Our partners now want to work exclusively with World Care and to build more maternity hospitals based on our design throughout the region. Working with World Care is a great experience because it gives me real world experience with humanitarian aid and development work. It is great to know that the work we did will help to lower maternal and infant mortality rates in the DRC. I would love to visit the hospital someday!
