Guidelines for Honors Credit in Preceptored Classes
Preceptors are undergraduate students who are trained to help their peers in a specific undergraduate course. Preceptors aid student learning in a number of ways, including, among others, hosting study-groups, on-line discussions, or review sessions and helping during laboratory work.
The object of these guidelines is to ensure that Honors credit is given in an equitable fashion in different courses.
- Preceptors can earn Honors credit by either:
- Drawing up an Honors Contract to serve as a preceptor according to regular Honors Contract guidelines. This gives you Honors credit for the course but no additional credits for the preceptorship. Or,
- Registering for UNVR 197aH in the section listed under the supervising faculty member’s name. This gives you Honors credit for the preceptorship, which requires that you complete an Honors experience that goes beyond what other preceptors (those earning non-Honors credit) are doing.
- Preceptors cannot earn Honors credit simultaneously for their preceptorship and for the class in which they are serving as preceptor.
- If you return to precept in a course taken previously for Honors credit, you can earn Honors credit for the preceptorship as described in (2b) above.
