Welcome from the Dean
Dean MacCorquodale

Greetings!

Welcome to The Honors College's web site. We have attempted to tailor this site to accomodate all of our visitors, especially: students (past, present, & future), faculty and staff, parents, colleagues at other schools, and friends. In our daily work at the College, we strive to nurture among these groups a strong sense of community -- a community which honors individual members while nonetheless transforming them. And that's really what life -- and one of its most important milestones, a college education -- is all about: transformation. To transform is to change the nature, function, or condition of being. Perhaps our current students feel the transformative process more deeply than other members of our community because of the context in which they live. The very essence of higher education is to explore and experiment and our students do this in every facet of their lives: academic, personal, professional, physical, spiritual, etc. These very processes of exploring and experimenting, let alone their outcomes, are transformative, complex, and sometimes even scary.

This is where I believe The Honors College is instrumental and particularly helpful in the lives of students. We promote the growth of development of students by offering challenging Honors courses, personalized advising, funded research, travel opportunities, and social and cultural activities that nourish students' quests for new knowledge, experiences, and alliances. All of these are offered in a nurturing and supportive environment that is reliant upon all of our community members for success. I sincerely hope you'll find this web site to be a useful resource in learning more about Honors and the programs and services we provide to you, our community of scholars. You might find our profile of current Honors students to be of interest. I encourage you to involve yourself in the broader Honors community through personal interaction, dialogues, and collaboration in your endeavors. Please provide feedback on how we can assist you and also on ways we can continue our progress toward stronger relationships among our past, present, and future students.

With best wishes,
