National scholars who choose to attend UA not only receive generous scholarships, but are also guaranteed admission into The University of Arizona Honors College. The Honors College provides students with superior preparation and distinction to enter the nation’s finest graduate and professional programs after graduation. As an honors student, you will join a highly selective community of scholars, distinctive on campus not only for academic talent, but for a shared commitment to leadership and social responsibility.
Honors courses offer opportunities for you to connect with professors beyond the lecture and textbook through active discussions, in-depth analysis, creative applications and direct feedback. You can customize your honors experience by choosing from over 250 honors courses offered each year, each with an average of only 19 students in the classroom.
Additional Features of the Honors Experience

The University of Arizona is committed to providing an exceptional learning environment and destination for the world’s best minds. Outstanding undergraduate students choose UA for its numerous unique opportunities for learning and growth. This makes our university a first choice institution for established and rising scholars from all over the country.
The profile of the freshman Honors College class mirrors that of the most selective public and private institutions in the nation. UA students in The Honors College enjoy the personal attention and peer group bonds typically found only in a small liberal arts college. And our honors students enjoy the academic diversity, state-of-the-art facilities and world-class faculty only found in a research extensive university.
The University of Arizona set a new institutional record of new Scholars from Arizona and across the nation in the fall 2005 freshman class. Currently we have over 300 National Merit Scholars on campus. UA also set new institutional records for the number of National Hispanic and National Achievement Scholars in 2006. We believe talented young people choose UA because of the academic opportunities, personal attention, opportunity for undergraduate research, and generous scholarships.
We recognize National Scholars as students who:
- advance from semifinalists to become finalists/scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program
- are semifinalists or finalists in the National Achievement Program
- are scholars in the National Hispanic Recognition Program
