The Murphey Foundation is dedicated to encouraging Southern Arizona National Merit Scholars to bring their gifts and talents to The University of Arizona . . . to help them fulfill their dreams.
History
Tucson is home to some of the finest scholars and community-minded citizens in Arizona. Steeped in this rich tradition, the John and Helen Murphey Foundation was founded in part to inspire and support the pursuit of academic excellence. Starting in 1930, John and Helen Murphey became the principal developers of the Catalina Foothills. The Murpheys believed that education was the solution to many social problems. Over the years before their deaths, they made generous contributions to the U of A. Hundreds of University of Arizona students have received recognition and financial support through the philanthropy of the Foundation.
Award
Murphey Foundation National Merit Scholars will receive $3000 in scholarship support in addition to UA’s scholarship program for Merit Scholars. The Murphey Scholarship is renewable for a total of eight semesters of undergraduate study at the University of Arizona . Therefore, Murphey Scholars can expect a total scholarship package that covers all or nearly all of the cost of attendance at UA. Also, scholarships from outside sources may be combined with the Murphey Foundation Scholarship and are excellent way to provide additional funding for your education.
