Amber Settle A full-time faculty member at DePaul University since 1996, Amber Settle earned a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in German from the University of Arizona in 1991. Her Mathematics honors thesis earned the Pima County High Technology Advisory Council Award in 1991, and her German honors thesis was rewritten into a publication in German Studies Review also in 1991. She then attended the University of Chicago, where she earned an M.S. in 1994 and a Ph.D. in 1999, both in Computer Science. Dr. Settle hired as an Assistant Professor by the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications, and Information Systems in 1998 and promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2003. She earned an award for teaching excellence in 2003 and was appointed a Vincent DePaul Professor the same year. The author of 17 journal and conference publications, Dr. Settle’s research interests include distributed algorithms, cellular automata, and computer science and information technology education. Her teaching interests include programming, web development, discrete mathematics, algorithms, theoretical computer science, e-commerce technology, and most recently, computer gaming. Dr. Settle and her partner André Berthiaume were among the first contributors to the Alternatives to Marriage Project and have remained strong supporters. They have also talked to the press about issues relating to the Alternatives to Marriage Project on a number of occasions and are featured in articles by Newsweek, the Associated Press, and other news outlets.
