The Baird Foundation offers four-year scholarships to ten graduating high school students every year. These students join the other thirty Baird Scholars at the University of Arizona and the Honors College. This prestigious award is specific to the Honors College and UA.
In addition to the financial award, Baird Students are invited to attend an annual dinner put on by the Honors College and the Baird Foundation every April. The dinner is held at the Arizona Inn, an historic hotel in the heart of Tucson that has been in operation since 1930. Baird Scholars also enjoy community-building events throughout the year.
How to Apply
Each high school in the state of Arizona may nominate one student per year. Information about the application process is distributed to high schools in the early fall. Some schools have their own internal application processes to select their Baird nominee. Talk to your high school counselor about your own school's process.
Once the nominee is selected, he or she must complete the Baird application as well as the application for the University of Arizona by mid-October (the final deadline varies each year). Students must be residents of the state of Arizona to be eligible.
A committee selects ten Baird Scholars and ten Baird Alternates. All Baird Scholars and Alternates receive automatic admission into the Honors College.
Students who are selected as Baird Scholars and accept their nominations receive a $12,500 scholarship that is renewable for four years. Baird Scholars will need to take 30 UA units per academic year and maintain a 3.20 cumulative UA GPA in order to be eligible for renewal. Please see the OSFA website for complete renewal criteria.
