Graces career goal is to earn her M.D./Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Oncology and conduct research investigating signaling pathways and the elements of signal transduction with clinical applications to improve understanding of the physiological determinants of cancer.

Jill Craven will be a senior majoring in chemical engineering at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. She does optics research in the area of absorption spectroscopy of surface chemistry using optical wave guides. She is president of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi at her school. She likes to cave in West Virginia and hikes the Grand Canyon at least once a year. In her spare time she trains for triathlons and takes nature photography.

Ajit Divakaruni - Undergraduate Senior, Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics

Ajit DivakaruniFor the first time since 1997, the UA has a recipient of the Marshall Scholarship, a prestigious national award that provides recipients with full funding of $60,000 for two or three years of graduate study in the United Kingdom. Scholarship winner Ajit Divakaruni, a senior majoring in biochemistry, mathematics, and molecular and cellular biology, said he will use the funding to pursue a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cambridge University.

He is working toward three degrees, all at the baccalaureate level with honors, in the departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, Mathematics, and Molecular & Cellular Biology. He has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout this exceptionally difficult course of study involving multiple honors courses in all three departments. Ajit as an excellent student. He is in fact the kind of student that one sees perhaps 2 or 3 times in an entire career.

Dan Tuttle - Undergraduate Senior, International Studies and Economics

UA senior Daniel Tuttle has been awarded the prestigious Truman Scholarship, given to only 75 students nationwide for their leadership potential, intellectual ability and the likelihood of making a difference. Tuttle, a senior in the University College and the Honors College, is majoring in international studies and economics. He has a commitment to international public service. Currently studying in Chengdu, China, Tuttle eventually wants to “help broker a role for China in East African economic development, channeling part of China’s growing economic might toward socially-responsible investment.” The Truman scholarship was awarded by Madeline Albright, president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, provides $30,000 for graduate students and priority admission to some premier graduate institutions.

Julia Jolley

Julia Jolley is studying Wildlife Conservation and Management at the University of Arizona. She spent a summer studying endangered Mt. Graham red squirrels and another summer working at a non-profit environmental group in Tucson. Julia is also an ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. After graduating she plans on attending Law School and pursuing a career in environmental law.
